Benzo Addiction: Three Valuable Resources for Drug Recovery

In recent months Benzo withdrawal has become an important topic, many addicts, physicians and substance abuse specialists have made their opinions public and this hard-hitting and sometimes heartbreaking issue is finally receiving the attention it so desperately deserves. However, the topic of prescription drug addiction is still somewhat taboo and those who suffer can have a difficult time finding the appropriate support and assistance.

The following are three reputable and respected pieces of literature which may help both addicts and their families understand Benzo withdrawal and its often debilitating symptoms. There are other books written from the perspective of a user or a physician which are also excellent.

Addiction Recovery Tools : Dr. Robert Holman Coombs
Written as a practical handbook this valuable resource can help addicts understand both their dependency and addiction by explaining it clearly without the confusion of in-depth medical terminology. This book goes beyond mere information and delves deep to supply the reader with valuable tools such as tips for cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational thinking and holistic remedies. All of which can help reduce both the symptoms of withdrawal and the stress of struggling to stay clean. With countless professional contributors this book is filled cover to cover with practical advice, worksheets, lists, questionnaires, guidelines and interactive exercises for both the individual experiencing Benzo withdrawal and their families and friends.

Benzo-wise: A Recovery Companion: V. Baylissa Frederick
Written from the personal perspective of a recovering addict this book is a must-read for anyone experiencing the hellish symptoms of Benzo withdrawal. The author shares incredibly private tales of her own counseling experiences and managing physiological symptoms. However this book is not solely directed at addicts and also includes valuable information for substance abuse councilors, doctors and in-home caregivers. In addition to being a comforting tale of survival, this helpful guide supplies the reader with a complete appendix of symptoms, benzodiazepine equivalence tables and many resource guides.

Benzo Blues: Dr. Drummond

Dr Drummond discusses overcoming anxiety without using tranquilizers. It is really an interesting book. There are a lot of personal stories that are inspirational and it goes into true solutions.

  1. What helped my friend the most was reading personal accounts of people that got through benzo withdrawal. Also she joined an online support group on benzodiazepine at either google or yahoo to keep herself on right track plus did weekly sessions with a female counselor.

  2. Thank you for recommending the book, Benzo-Wise, by V. Baylissa Frederick. This book really gave me encouragement after I read what the author went through and is now recovered. The factual knowledge in the book has been a great resource for me and I refer to this guide weekly if not sometimes daily. It’s a great book. Thanks for the reference!

  3. The Benzo-Wise book is excellent. Thank you for recommending it. Many of our forum members say they’re showing copies to their doctors and family and it helps them to understand the experience and gives great suggestions for supporting us. Thanks again.
