Binge Drinking: Do You Indulge In This ?

Are you involved in binge drinking and do you promise yourself that you’ll give it over and over again? What happens that starts the pattern another time? Binge drinking may start off as a fun evening but can lead to so many negative situations such as driving, having sexual relations that you hadn’t planned or getting aggressive in a social context that makes you feel foolish later.

Binge drinking is something that leads to a lot of self-hate for people. I’ve found as a counselor, so many people are beating themselves up the next day, angry for their poor resolve, feel they’ve let down their family AGAIN, worry about work and how they can perform etc etc.

There are ways to get a nice high from life that don’t involve drinking. Don’t give up your wish to have fun and to feel care-free. Just do this in a healthy way. Meditation is a great thing to practice as it helps stress slide off more during the day as well as get you in touch with a nice inner feeling of peace and connection with your breath. Visualization is also wonderful to get an image of something that is fulfilling. With an image, there is the possiblity of actualizing it.

Remember your dreams as a teen. Sure now you may have a family and a job and can’t go to college. But what about just taking one online course or a local class in something you are interested in. It can be a 6 week class and not for credit, but something to give you a passion again. This is great to get your juices going and not rely on the high from drinking. Plus you get back your self-esteem again and don’t fall into lots of negative self-hatred which only makes you feel rotten inside.

You don’t have to beat yourself but start creating healthier habits to replace the binge drinking cycle. Get some vitamins , add in 20 minutes of exercise a day and this will all help to put yourself back in a positive state of mind. There are local counselors and groups for support as well to be an assistance. But get your visualization in your head of the you that you wish to be.
