Celebrities and Prescription Drugs: Jeremy London
We regularly read about celebrities and drug addiction issues. Lately, there have been a lot of news stories involving prescription overdoses and abuse. Some have led to death including sadly Corey Haim, Heath Ledger and of course Anna Nichol Smith. In the news today I see Jeremy London has been mentioned for getting help for his addiction to prescribed meds. Fortunately, it looks like he is going to truly make changes in his life. We are familiar with him from Seventh Heaven and Party of Five. He did attend rehab last fall and can see his son for visitation since divorce.
Jeremy London looked like he had it all and for people struggling with unemployment or insufficient funds to cover the bills, it is hard to understand why celebs get into prescription abuse. Lindsay Lohan is regularly in news about her problems with pain killers and this weekend we see that there is a story about Jenna Jameson and her relation to the painkiller oxycontin. Her ex has been accused of domestic violence abuse but Tito Ortiz says that she had a relapse and the charges are false.
There are now more stringent rules placed to monitor those doing doctor and clinic hopping to be able to get more pain killer meds, hoping that the pharmacies won’t figure this out. Fortunately, pharmacies will make calls to physicians when things look suspicious and they are seeing a prior prescription from another doctor for the same or a similar medication. There can be a level of desperation that leads ones to this and this doesn’t involve selling them, but for one’s own personal use.
Getting help is critical to avoid the problem from getting deeper and deeper. Remember that the roots get deeper as a plant grows and it is harder to get out the whole system of runners below it. This is what happens when we get into addictive habits as well and why it can be difficult to get extricated from them. Nonetheless, it is possible, many reverse the pattern and find healthier modes to cope and turn their lives around. You can be one of them.
I know celebrities have pressures that lead to addiction of drugs but it still seems like their lives are a lot easier than people who are unemployed or working a 50 hour week at a job they hate. I guess the lifestyle involves lots of parties but I can’t have sympathy for someone who makes so much money and wrecks it by drug abuse habits.
I know this is always talked about but why is Lindsey Lohan always in the news about addiction? Now she is wearing a scram device to monitor alcohol intake. I loved her in freaky friday and mean girls and she seemed to have a wisdom about her, but she is constantly relapsing and falling down.
Good for you Jeremy London in taking care of a problem and not landing up like druggie celebs addicted like the ones on the news non stop. I am so bored with them and their sense of entitlement.
