Choosing a Meth Treatment Center: Getting Past Crystal Methamphetamine Addiction
An addiction to crystal meth, or methamphetamine, is serious; it is a seriously fatal addiction. It is important to get help right away. When you have made the choice to seek help, and congratulations on taking that first important step, you know that you will need to enter a treatment center, but you may not know what to expect from a meth treatment center.
First and foremost, you will go through a detoxification period. This is what will clear the meth and its toxins from your body. It’s not going to be easy, and it can take four to six weeks to get past this hurdle. This may seem like a lifetime, but the meth facility center that you choose will help you get through this. That is what they are designed for.
There are a lot of meth treatment centers that will use comprehensive treatments and therapies. One such therapy is cognitive behavioral intervention. This is a form of therapy that will help you get to the root, or the cause, of your addiction and teach you how to deal with these issues so that you do not have to turn back to your meth addiction. You will study your motives and underlying thinking.
While you are in the meth treatment center, your recovery will present you with many obstacles that you will have to learn to overcome, but again the staff are there to help you. You can expect insomnia, depression, social withdrawal, and some level of paranoia as you experience the different types of withdrawal from the meth. Don’t be scared about this as it is part of the process. It is important to your recovery efforts to make these obstacles, and any other symptoms you might experience, known to the staff that is in charge of your care. Also, be honest with therapists in individual and group counseling for addictions to let them know about other drugs you’ve been drawn to and may have been dependent upon including pot, cocaine and other addictive substances
In some cases, the doctors at the rehab center may prescribe you certain temporary medications to help you through what you are experiencing. It depends on the symptom. It also depends on your safety and any other health issues that you may have. The doctors do not want you to trade one addiction for another, so if there are medications prescribed for your withdrawal it will be on a case-by-case incident. Also of course the idea is to not gain a new addiction but to get beyond crystal meth to new horizons.
One good reason to not get into drugs is that it is so easy to relapse when you try to quit doing them. My brother had compulsive drug cravings and had so much trouble stopping. He hated coming down afterwards and dealing with real world problems so spent his time planning how to get back to the high from drugs over and over again. After the 2nd rehab he seems to be doing better but it’s too early to tell.
