How Long Does Pot Stay In Your System

Whether you call it pot, weed, marijuana or cannabis, smoking even a tiny bit will put it in your system and may make a urine test for drugs show the THC positively. It may be used as a way to unwind from time to time or be a deeper regular pattern but either way, you need to think about the consequences of having random testing done at work or home. Some people are also involved with medicinal marijuana for health reasons and still need to take a drug test for employment purposes, which is something to discuss with one’s employer.

For those using marijuana for medical reasons in a state where it’s legal, your employer will most likely ask for medical confirmation and work with you accordingly. If you are looking for work and the prospective employer wants a clean drug test in order to be hired, then this can be complicated as the element of trust and history is not there. Medical records would be important in this context to build trust and validate the claim.

The length of time that pot stays in your system is depends mostly on to how often you smoke and how long you have been a smoker – the average range is from thirty days to ninety days. First time or light pot users may even be detected within ten days of last use. Factors such as body weight and metabolism can influence how long the active ingredient THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), may be detected in a urine drug test.

Online shops and various vendors sell kits or teas that claim to detoxify your system but these must be used for an extended period of time prior to testing in order to be effective. There is also the myth that drinking a lot of water, followed by taking vitamin B-2 will result in a clean test. However, this only serves to dilutes the THC but still a small percentage can be detected.

Remember that the type of test used to determine presence of thc can make a difference. A urine test is the most common and can detect traces for up to forty-five days after use. On the other hand, hair analysis, using a hair strand test can detect pot up to three years after the last time smoked. Pot is fat soluble and it can be in liver and kidney.

More and more parents are using home drug testing for teens to monitor whether pot is being smoked or not. Random tests at work are also conducted as are drug screenings.

  1. My friend smokes pot from time to time and his mom did a home test for drug detection and it was still in his system a week later. It really isn’t fair because now he is grounded and had his cell phone taken away till Thanksgiving.

  2. More jobs are doing random testing so it’s good to be careful about pot smoking habits. Also if you get medications for mental health issues some places also do a test there too because they don’t want you to mix illegal drugs with prescription anxiety drugs for depression.
