Cocaine is an addictive stimulant drug that is obtained from Coca plant. This drug usually comes in powdered hydrochloride salt that is dissolved in water, then injected, snorted or smoked. Injecting is the use of needle to place the cocaine directly to the bloodstream. Snorting is inhaling of the cocaine powder and the nasal tissues absorb it. It enters the lungs then absorbed into the bloodstream. These processes of taking the cocaine all leads to addiction.
There are many mental and physical side effects of cocaine. With just small amount of consumption, cocaine can make a person mentally alert, energetic, and talkative. The drug can also reduce the food intake of the user. According to some users, the side effects of cocaine can either make them alert mentally and physically or the opposite. Many claim it makes them productive and energized. But, this sense of euphoria is unstable. When large amounts of cocaine are taken, the user may have inconsistent and violent behavior. Paranoia, vertigo or dizziness, and muscle twitches are also experienced by cocaine users. These are just some of the cocaine signs and effects . Drugs have been a popular subject for decades. Their use has been the focus of many different art forms from movies, songs, poetry, and painting. The way they alter the mind and send the user into an alternate reality intrigues us even if you aren’t a “drug user”. Drugs in the arts appeal to us because either we understand what the artist is saying about the drug or it fascinates us how drugs can take over a person. In the movies, the topic of drugs is very popular because the viewer can actually see what drugs can do to a person or community. Sometimes they show the funny side of drug use like in Cheech and Chong movies, Half Baked or Kumar’s White Castle. Sometimes the dark and political sides of drug use are shown like in the film Traffic. There can also be intense movies such as the Lady Sings The Blues which shows Billie Holliday’s deteroriation.
