Psychedelic Drugs: Drug Abuse in America

Former Harvard Professor Dr. Richard Alpert said something interesting in this video when he spoke about his past use of lsd and it’s relation to higher awareness. He said, “As long as high was separate from being low, there was a problem”. He wanted to get rid of duality between those two and saw that he doesn’t want to get high, but to get free. This led him to realize he needs to figure out what brings him down- ie what psychological issues pull him down. It leds to a going down into what catches him and the resistances he has and ways he identifies with things that create weights.

Ram Dass goes into how his inquiry led to looking at money, power and sense and what attachments effected his emotions and created the yo-yo effect. The drugs opened him up but were not the “answer”. What happened to him through the psychedelic drug was he said powerful because ” it cut through at a profound my ability to cut people at bay.” It broke through a distance he had that was always troublesome. Of course, he was a psychology professor and always had an interest in the mind and consciousness and self-inquiry.

Do you use drugs for self-oblivion? If you do use them for higher awareness, study his ideas as he has left drugs a long time ago and advanced via meditation and self-inquiry and of course his trip to India.

  3. Hey I just saw the new woodstock movie and there was a cool scene when the guy got high on pot in a tent with a couple. They showed the perception shift and it was well done. Also it showed how the 60s was about love and where weed smoking tied in.
